ANIMATION

“Only in cartoons are the impossible made possible”
Animation has always played a significant role in experimental filmmaking. In the past, the process involved filming a series of still drawings or objects so that when projected, illusion of movement was created.
With the development of computer technology, many animated films have been made from computer generated images (CGI), also known as computer animation). Through the popularity of animated cartoons, techniques of animation have typically played a larger part in commercial cinema than other aspects of avant-garde filmmaking. From 1930 till date animation has gotten and increase in worldwide acceptance.
Although commercial motion-picture animation slumped in 1960s, Cartoons came back in the 80’s. Walt Disney company and other producers began to revive the animated features. “who framed roger rabbit”, was one of their success and they went on to produce more Hollywood classics like Beauty and the Beast in 1991 and The Lion King in 1994, SHREK in 2001. Cartoons were aired on Nigerian television stations since the 80’s and have been loved by kids till date. Parents have often been advised to allow their children watch cartoons as it eases stress and helps educate them.

One day,Nigerian Education

Education, the hope for a better Nigeria

“A Nation without Education is dead”

Nigeria keeps advancing in post independence age yet largely stunted in the educational delivery system. I hear the older generation lament over the fact that in earlier years, a secondary school graduate could teach secondary school subjects effectively. Today, how many secondary school graduates can teach primary school subjects, not to talk of secondary school subjects.

The government keeps working at increasing the number of schools in the country but the quality of education keeps dropping by the day. How would we boast of high quality of education when even the teachers who are supposed to lecture the students in the classrooms are half baked? We have schools where only one teacher teaches all classes; some have classrooms without windows and doors, there are schools with overcrowded classrooms most without teaching aids to help facilitate learning, still there are places in Nigeria with no presence of formal education. Those who need high quality of education at all levels have to pay through their nose to get it. Now, how many Nigerians can afford that?

From basic knowledge, we know that education is not just about classroom learning alone. Every process we go through in life is all a process of education. Even our orientation as well as attitude show how much education we have received and to change them, we also need education. From the few years I have lived in Nigeria, I have come to realize that apart from a faulty formal education, most Nigerians are poorly oriented. This also shows poor quality of education at all levels.  You would agree with me that the attitude and behaviour of most Nigerians depicts illiteracy. No need to go into details we know these things.

The educational issues arose from the fact that the older generation failed to improve themselves and properly tutor their children on the need to prepare for a more challenging future. We could right the wrongs of our predecessors by properly nurturing and educating ourselves at all levels including changing our orientation. Pull yourself out of ignorance and make sure that your children are properly educated at all levels in every area of life. Our children would pass it unto their children and if the cycle continues one day Nigeria would be a country without illiterates. Who says we can’t? Yes! We can! It all starts with us the youths and when that day comes I hope to see you then to share in the joy.

Flooding in Iju

  Blocked Drainages In Iju

” we often blame others for problems we create”

Flood is a common natural disaster that occurs during rainfall. It is usually caused by an overflow of water that submerges dry land. Despite the fact that flood is a natural disaster, it can also be cause by man. (Poor waste management from households)

The residents of Iju Ishaga have been haunted by flood for several years and are still facing this challenge. Unlike other parts of Nigeria  The Government created drainages to channel water during the rainy season but some residents have turned these drainages to refuse dump. These residents dump refuse in the drainages hoping that the water flowing in them will carry the refuse away.

The effect of this is that the drainages get blocked with refuse stopping the flow of water. The water is then forced out of the drainage unto the road and sometimes into the compounds and homes of some residents.

Some residents say the flood is a natural disaster and cannot be avoided others state clearly the cause but claim they are powerless to stop it. The major cause of the flood is ignorance. Also, failure for garbage dispose truck to come as at when due also contributes to this problem. Most of the perpetrators are oblivious of the repercussion of dumping refuse in the drainage. Apart from rendering the roads impassable, the stagnant water causes mosquito infestation and malaria as a result.

ANKARA BOOK

Ankara fabric commonly known as “African Print” is 100% cotton fabric with beautiful patterns.
It is a very versatile fabric which has been used to make various items such as bags, shoes, belts, hats, sandals and earrings to mention a few. Further proving the versatility of the fabric, Nigerians have been able to use this fabric to make books, beautiful books which can be used by both young and old.

Remorse

Here alone on this lonely path
My pure thoughts stained by regret
Never mattered if I stood or sat
Regret has me in it’s net
Now a slave to empathy
Good or bad I wonder endlessly
We are condemned by bad choices
